IEBT has been conducting alcohol testing since 1988 and was at the forefront of setting the standards for the testing process. Many of the today's regulations are a result of IEBT consultations and recommendations.

IEBT follows the same procedures that are used in federally mandated testing, protecting the identity of the donor and assuring the integrity of the test.

EVIDENTIAL BREATH TESTER or EBT such as the Dr�ger 7410 (left) is required in order to conduct both alcohol screening tests and confirmation tests.
ALCOHOL SCREENING DEVICE or ASD such as the Guth Mark X (right) and the disposable saliva alcohol kit QED A150 (center) can only be used to perform alcohol screening tests.

IEBT conducts regulated and non-regulated alcohol testing in the following categories:

Workplace, BWC and DOT Related

Pre-Employment, Baseline, Random Selection, Reasonable Suspicion, 24-Hour Post-Accident, Return to Duty, and Follow-up Testing.

Private or Personally Related

IEBT provides private testing services for individuals monitoring alcohol related behavior of family members or children. We also provide testing for private attorneys, court systems and schools.

In addition we are able to provide expert witness testimony in all matters related to alcohol testing.

Types of Testing

Alcohol testing falls under two separate classifications: regulated and non-regulated.

REGULATED: A testing process that is either federally or locally mandated to insure that a defined set of standards are followed closely to preserve the integrity of the results being acted upon by a company that is subject to such regulations. These standards not only apply to the alcohol technician performing the test, but also the training of the technician and the equipment used.

Breath Alcohol Technicians (BAT) are trained professionals in the drug and alcohol testing industry. The Breath Alcohol Technician Certification is required by the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). Specifically 49 CFR Part 40.

The code also allows for testing through the use of approved alcohol screening devices (ASD).

IEBT uses both Evidential Breath Testing (EBT) devices and ASDs in the form of the Saliva Alcohol Test. Both devices must be approved by the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA). IEBT trains not only BATs and ASDs, but can, at its discretion train instructors.

NON-REGULATED: Almost all companies testing their non-DOT regulated employees use the same devices as DOT regulated companies. The devices for alcohol testing that are not approved by NHTSA are seriously inferior in a number of ways. The most significant would be the inability to distinguish between ethanol (alcohol) and acetone and the inability to accurately measure low levels of alcohol.
